Jeanne Rye
Jeanne Rye’s artwork is whimsical, quirky, and humorous. The subject matters of her paintings are everyday objects, the comedy of animals and the routine moments in life that we so often take for granted. Her paintings aspire to expose the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Rye lives in Longmeadow, MA with her husband (and exceptionally awesome dog, Olive Oyl) and is the mother of two young adults. She started painting in earnest over twenty years ago and is completely self-taught. Before her painting career, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and helped run the Chemistry labs at Westfield State University.
Growing up in rural Minnesota, Jeanne spent most of her time hanging out with horses. She considers them one of the world’s greatest teachers and carries with her the many lessons she learned from raising and training them in her youth. They continue to inspire her paintings and remain one of her favorite subject matters—she agrees with Herman Melville, “no philosopher so thoroughly comprehend us as dogs and horses.”
Jeanne Rye’s other talents include playing mediocre golf, tv bingeing and being a diabolical Scrabble junkie.
